Pantry Organization

This past weekend I had the pleasure of working with a client to redesign and organize her pantry. If I’m being honest, walking into the project I had all these ideas for how to make it look really nice, like every other pantry I had seen on Pinterest. I wanted to decant everything, put labels on jars, and make it so aesthetically pleasing that it could be featured in a magazine. However, my client wanted to go the more practical route. She told me that she wanted the pantry to be more usable and less of a mess. Even though I was disappointed I wouldn’t get to decant everything, I was reminded of one important thing: the reason I started this business. Yes, I love organizing and making things pretty. But more than that, I love being able to help people feel at peace with their space. My client told me that the pantry was bothering her and I had the opportunity to use my skills to make it something great and efficient for her to walk into everyday.

After

In our initial consultation, I walked through some ideas with her. I showed her pictures of different options I had scouted and, through talking with her, was able to figure out what she liked and what she didn’t. The main thing she wanted was containers that she could see through, whether that be translucent bins or wire baskets. For her, it was important to see the items in the pantry and be able to easily pick out what she needed. This presented a unique problem when considering the overall aesthetic. Unlike in the dream pantries I had seen, she didn’t want wicker baskets or opaque containers that would hide mismatched items. But that wasn’t going to stop me from giving her the best pantry possible.

After that consultation, I went home and researched some products. I knew I wanted her to have some lazy susan-type containers so that she could easily see the many bottles of oil and vinegar she had. I also found wire baskets and labels for the snacks and breakfast items. Another thing I knew she needed was somewhere to store the many water bottles her family had collected. I suggested this organizer.

This past weekend I went to her house and started the actual organizing process. I spent some time putting together the bins and baskets that we had ordered, removed all of the items in the pantry and cleaned the shelves. I then began to arrange the containers in the pantry. One of my client’s main wishes was to have everything that was on the floor fit somewhere on the shelves. This was easy enough because as I started moving things around, I realized that there was a ton of open space. All that needed to be done was to organize and cut some extra stuff out.

In the end, I created a pantry that was both efficient and well-organized. After I left the house, my client called me and could not contain her excitement at my work. This made me so happy! I had worked really hard on this project and to know that I had made her life easier and that she loved my work was a feeling that I can’t describe. All I can say is that having a client who was so grateful and appreciative made me want to take on more and more projects for the chance to help someone like that again. If you or someone you know wants to get more organized, reach out to me.
